Ah, college in Baton Rouge. Warm nights, cool jazz, unfiltered Camels, and cold martinis.

These photos were taken by Michael Dominici at a two parties on State Street, not far from LSU’s campus. This was late 1988, I believe. You’ll see such notable luminaries as Chris Robertson, John Arrizza, Rob Cambre, Greg Fuchs, Brett Evans, Valerie Massimi, and yours truly.

We did a quick visit to Chicago in April, to visit some old friends. We are in love with Chicago. The food, the beer, the art, the park, the aquarium, all of it. And the city has this thing called public transportation. You can pay $1.50 and take a train to cross the city. Remarkable!

We waited an hour to eat at Hot Doug’s restaurant. Best hot dogs I’ve ever had. They sell french fries fried in duck fat. And they fry their hot dogs. Sublime.

My buddy and I visited the Hopleaf Bar. Which is now the Best Bar in the World. They had beers on tap I would never see in Texas. Fuck Texas and its retarded liquor laws. I want to be able to do to my local liquor store and buy Rodenbach Grand Cru like you can in Chicago.

Years ago I worked for a big publisher which wanted to add dot.com to its name, and a young woman working there asked our new manager how to use vi. We went through 13 managers in one year; the stuff-shirt management didn’t know what to do with us young weirdo WWW people.

The art director for this film is Eiko Ishioka, who also performed the same task for Francis Ford Coppola’s film Bram Stoker’s Dracula. You may recall how much of the costume design in that film recalled the works of Gustav Klimt.
